Complete Standalone version running on local GPU

Post by AB6GS »

First thank you for the effective noise removal net. My suggestion is to provide a version than runs on the local PC GPU. The unnecessary internet trip and server that people have to pay to maintain makes no sense in the modern age. NV Broadcast can run on a lowly 2060 GPU and does noise filtering. The 2060 by technology timelines was made in the prehistoric age. I have a machine I built years ago and it runs a water-blocked 4090. This old card has already been superseded by the 5090 with a 6090 less than 12 months away. I can't imagine your net requiring more than a 2080 to run locally.

Not only is half my latency the network trip, it is very unsettling to have up to 300ms of delay including packet loss gaps. In a few years a cheap laptop from Walmart will have a GPU capable or doing more than is necessary to simply filter noise. Eliminating the internet requirement will allow portable operation, save you time maintaining servers, reduce audio delay, and eliminate packet loss problems, etc.

The new client can simply have a record button that the operator can press to record and upload a sample for you to continue training new nets. The only internet access needed would be for hams to download new networks to run on the local client/PC.

Again, this tool is amazingly effective and I thank everyone that put it together. If only the big 3 would build this in before the AGC circuit!
I appreciate your consideration for a client than processes locally.

Mike,

I am listening and do not disagree with you that it would be possible to run the filtering locally. I've tried it on a RTX-4070 laptop, and it works fine (but I can't remember how busy the CPU/GPU were.) The most compelling part of your argument is that local hosting completely avoids packet loss. I hate packet loss...

I want to get the web client properly launched, and then I will think about this some more.
