Willing to lend a programming hand for Mac OS and iOS

Post by geoffwaddington »

I am a newly licensed Ham, now retired from my day job, always looking for projects to keep my brain from seizing up :)

I started out in electronics at age 9, with the help of a Ham mentor, in the early sixties, but ended up getting into audio electronics, followed by a career as a professional musician in my younger years.

Wow, the Ham bands were so much less noisy back then !!

Have been a professional programmer for the last 4 decades, and am fluent in more computer languages than I care to mention :)

After firing up my new radio, discovered the noise was totally overwhelming.

Tried the usual noise reduction suspects on my FT-710 with little success, which got me thinking about applying AI to the problem, which led me here.

My current computing setup includes a Mac mini and an iPad pro, both with M4 processors.

I realize they are not Nvidia 4090/5090 class, but they do have reasonable GPU horsepower, have been running mid size DeepSeek builds successfully.

Would like to explore the possibility of writing software for stand alone Mac OS/iOS usage.

As you know that would be very attractive for power out/no internet conditions, as well from a network latency perspective.

Do you think that is a reasonable approach to investigate ?

Would you like me to contribute to the RM Noise project ?

Thanks and 73,

Geoff Waddington
